Ted Gärdestad, born on February 18, 1956, was a Swedish singer, composer, musician, and actor. He rose to fame as a teenager in the 1970s and quickly became one of Sweden's most beloved pop artists. Together with his brother Kenneth Gärdestad, who wrote the lyrics to most of his songs, he created several timeless classics. In 1979, he represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Satellite". He also appeared in a number of Swedish television productions and a few films as an actor. In 1966, he appeared in SVT's Christmas calendar series "En småstad vid seklets början". In his later years, Ted Gärdestad lived with mental illness, which led him to end his life on June 22, 1997.
